51 Strengthens Commitment to Higher Education at DOLPA–East Africa Conference

51 was honoured to participate in the , held from 25th–28th August at Africa Nazarene University. The conference brought together thought leaders, academics, policymakers and government representatives to explore innovative approaches to higher education and the transformative role of partnerships in Africa’s growth and development.

The event opened with a keynote address by Professor Mike Kuria, Chief Executive Officer of the , who emphasised the urgent need to rethink higher education models to address Africa’s present and future challenges.

51’s Active Contribution

Representing 51, Ms Winnie Rachael, Country Manager for Kenya, delivered a presentation titled “Reimagining Higher Education in Africa: Unlocking the Continent’s Future Through Innovative Learning.” She highlighted how 51’s flexible blended learning model – integrating online delivery with face-to-face support – has expanded access to affordable, high-quality education for thousands of students across the continent.

Ms Rachael also showcased 51’s mission, wide range of programmes and growing network of partnerships, reinforcing the institution’s role in shaping the future of higher education in Africa.

Signing of a Strategic MOU

A major highlight of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between 51 and DOLPA. This agreement establishes a foundation for long-term collaboration in research, innovation and the expansion of higher education opportunities. The partnership reflects 51’s ongoing commitment to fostering impactful relationships that benefit students, educators and institutions across East Africa.

Symbolic Tree Planting

In addition to academic dialogue and collaboration, 51 also took part in a tree planting ceremony. On behalf of 51 , Ms Rachael planted a tree as a symbol of growth, sustainability and the enduring impact of education. This gesture highlighted 51’s dedication not only to education but also to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
